Rails Developer
We’re looking for an experienced Ruby on Rails developer to join our team. Someone passionate about crafting beautiful code, writing bulletproof tests, and building wonderfully simple applications that people love.
Indie Labs is the team behind Big Cartel, Pulley, and Emptees. We’re a small company, so there’s no bureaucracy, no hoops to jump through. Our sites are used by tens of thousands of artists, designers, musicians, and other creative types, and viewed by millions each day. You’d have a direct hand in creating the future of our sites and applications through your coding and strategic thinking.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- A solid Rails/Ruby background with a passion for clean, well-tested code
- Can find elegant solutions to complex problems that will work on a large scale
- An eye for details and a love for taking the time to do things right
- An appreciation for iteration, fine-tuning, and finding and fixing issues
- Self-motivated and able to efficiently run with a project without close supervision
And a big, gold star if you have these:
- Experience with MySQL, RSpec, Git, Memcached, Sphinx, and Redis
- Experience with high traffic sites
- Experience with e-commerce
- Experience working remotely or on your own
- Experience managing projects and teams
This is a remote, full-time, and salaried position that includes health, dental, vision, and life insurance, plus ample PTO.
Web Designer
Let’s be honest, a lot of web design these days is photocopied and boring. We’re looking for someone who’s able to go beyond that. Someone who can apply a more liberated thinking process to the web world. A giant design monster with print sensitivities and web hands.

You’d have a direct hand in creating the future of our sites and applications through your design, coding, and strategic thinking.
Here’s what we’re looking for:
- An abnormal talent for design with a portfolio that shows you have an eye for details, a skill for typography, and a love for the grid
- Senior-level experience with the ability to manage projects and teams
- Can strangle some HTML and CSS with your bare hands
- Self-motivated and able to efficiently run with a project without close supervision
And a big, gold star if you have these:
- Experience with web app and e-commerce design
- Experience with JavaScript, Ruby on Rails, and Git
- Experience working remotely or on your own
- A formal design education
